this side of dreams

Bubble bursts when i was sitting that side of yesterday
somewhere yonder this side of those dreams of happiness and khaki fields
blue with the spreading of highveld dust
thousands of bones powdered over mellenia, thousands of bones in the atmosphere,
thousands of ancestral voices layed to rest in the sun only by embracing the rain
that afternoon respite that wets us thankful like fishes,
but here its all deep sea, bottom feeders on the belly of the universal ocean
clouds noiseless buffers between the dark pin pricked yonder and the dark electric streets of
four o'clock england night...
nothing less likely to fly than an aeroplane...
...and i break steel wings and fasten them shoulder size with
band-aids and in the morning you won't see the scars and there's no need to share,
plenty of planes for everyone
and we'll be flights of steel angels and angels fly south for the winter and tiptoe
round the planet tightroping the equator

pull

Pull
Long sigh put smoke in my I
so eye blinked tears down the blind-side of tomorrows
dreaming puddles of rubble
that rippled an ocean of troubles
pull
Ten thousand elastic waves
lung-sickness and stubble
carried my tesco shopping in the bags beneath my eyes
while gearboxes grind by my window
exhale
and rusted nails from yesterday
make mansions in my imagination
and I'm walking on the halos
of poets and idea benders
breathing all of my life
today

crooked the looks that life gives me,
stilted the stand of no-motion,
slow like walking mountains,
i spout fountains of silent speech from my mouth,
lips making ideas like fish gasping silent for breath,
and all i say is just another way
of bubbles pro-creating

sixty one suns

sixty one suns
the sum of the weight of my heart,
so heavy that I can float in a vacuum,
see the cosmos through light
shining on closed lids,
I tip shadows off the palms of my hands
shouting versus from liberty land,
I stand beneath the cloud of humanities failed dreams of freedom
eating knowledge for morning porridge
s**ting books.

Digital vs Traditional

So you grow up with pen and paper and paint and then one day you start thinking about making ago at what you love as a means to living... and then you start listening to people who have been doing it for years and everyone is going digital and then you start thinking that maybe tinkering with photoshop and illustrator isn't enough and maybe the way forward is to go completely digital... Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for evolution and progression and change and pushing boundaries and adapting to the way the world is going but then how much of what you love do you lose?
Is creating an image on a computer anywhere comparable to the fortuity of chance on a blank piece of paper where the essence and the beauty is in the imperfections. We're imperfect beings and as such, surely, to assign ourselves the level of control of bezier curves and texture fills and the speed of the touch of a button somehow becomes an obstruction and a limitation... on the other hand, digitally speaking in cyber-space surely the tools can't possibly limit us in a world that is open to infinite possibilities? Maybe the answer lies in neither world as an obsolete but rather to transpose and combine one with the other, expansion of imaginative possibilities and the testing of creative boundaries... ???

Go Katie, Go!

I have been working on a childrens picture book with David whom I met at the print shop. It has been brilliant watching the illustrations of Katie evolve her into a well rounded and dynamic character. We have just assembled packages to send off to the first batch of publishers and are keeping all digits crossed! Goodluck!

PND

Designed the poster for a new Postnatal Depression awareness group. Really enjoyed getting stuck into illustrator and thought that the end result was really good too. Looking forward to getting more illustration work.

ANIMOCITY - Childrens Picture Book

ANIMOCITY was born in Taiwan from the fusion of two major influences. The overpopulation of the La isla de Taiwán o Formosa, (the beautifull Island) and a longing for the diversity of Africa. Based on an oral tradition of story telling ANIMOCITY evokes a fireside feeling while addressing the problems of modernisation, migration and overpopulation.
'The animals are leaving and we do not know how it started' The book is beautifully illustrated with hues reminiscent of the Southern African landscapes and its earthy tones. It asks questions about the environment and our place in it. It is a picture book that adults will love reading to their children.
